Supportive Counseling

Manavi advocates provide supportive counseling to survivors of gender-based violence. We understand that South Asian survivors face unique cultural and linguistic barriers. All Manavi advocates are bilingual and understand the South Asian culture and familial dynamics. We also recognize that survivors with intersecting identities from diverse backgrounds face structural and institutional barriers which hinder their ability to access services. Manavi advocates are trained to provide culturally specific supportive counseling using a survivor-centered approach.

Our advocates are available to provide counseling and support to survivors 24 hours a day.

Manavi advocates maintain the following values:

  1. Treating survivors with respect, upholding privacy and confidentiality, and always centering the needs of survivors.
  2. Honoring the cultural, physical, mental, emotional, and language needs of survivors.
  3. Providing all survivors with equal and equitable access to services regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, ethnicity, age, socio-economic status, language, education, class, immigration status, religion, nationality, and ability or any other identity.
  4. Working to improve the response to gender-based violence at individual and systemic levels.
  5. Providing survivor-driven and trauma informed support services in a safe and non-judgmental space to promote equity and safety for all survivors .
