Due to a number of issues, South Asian women can find themselves captive in their abusive situations.
Manavi began as an awareness campaign on issues concerning South Asian survivors. Today, Manavi continues to be a pioneer in advancing the South Asian survivors movement by adapting to and developing new strategies and service provisions to the changing needs of our community.
As a direct service provider, Manavi strives to address both the immediate needs of survivors facing abuse and the long-term vision of establishing peaceful communities free from gender-based violence. Manavi provides culturally specific and linguistically appropriate services including, counseling, advocacy, 24-hour hotline, legal advocacy, support services, transitional home and more.
Manavi serves South Asian communities affected by gender-based violence across the state of New Jersey, with a particular focus on the needs of survivors in Middlesex and Passaic counties, local to Manavi’s offices in New Brunswick and Paterson. We will soon be opening another office in Jersey City. We work at the intersection of factors that oppress survivors including race, sexuality, language, education, class, residency status, religion, nationality, and ability in order to end gender-based violence in the South Asian community.
“Today, if I am able to look positively into the future, I can say without a doubt that it is because of Manavi.”
