May is Mental Health Awareness Month

During the month of May, we raise awareness to the struggles that many members of our community face with mental health. Mental and Behavioral health is vital to overall wellness but it is frequently stigmatized and overlooked far too often. The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Month is “Together for Mental Health.”

As we have seen through the global pandemic, mental health has a large impact on overall health and wellbeing. Dealing with the isolation and fear of COVID-19 has led many members of our community to struggle with mental health symptoms in the past two years especially. In order to get through these challenging times, access to mental health care and the ability to reach out for help are crucial.

We must unite as a community to ensure that those affected by mental illness do not have to suffer alone, that they can access the care that they need and go on to live fulfilling lives. Let’s fight the stigma surrounding mental health, provide support to those in need, and advocate for policies that provide aid to people battling mental illness and their families.
