Supportive Counseling & Advocacy
Manavi has a corps of trained staff
and volunteers who provide culture specific supportive counseling
and advocacy to South Asian women. Our counseling technique:
- is language and culture specific,
- uses a communication style that
is non-threatening and familiar,
- acknowledges the fact that the
survivor might be a recent immigrant to the U.S. and therefore
unaware of the system and her rights,
- recognizes the fact that the woman
we work with may face forms of culture-specific discrimination
through the family and other social structures that are
different from the kinds of gender discrimination commonly
faced by American survivors.
Our counseling team is supported by
a number of experienced domestic violence specialists. Volunteers
are available 7 days a week to provide crisis intervention
services to women in need.

Note from an Ex-Ashiana resident - "I
was totally unaware of my rights and my strength, when I first
contacted Manavi and came to Ashiana..."
